The United States government had an annual budget of almost three trillion dollars in 2008. The budget covers military, investment, the Federal Reserve, social security, Medicare, infrastructures and defense. All of these project range in the billions of dollars. In order to continue these programs, we need to fulfill our civic duty of paying taxes.
A lot of people hate the idea of taxes and see it as way for the government to get your income. A good portion of everyone’s taxes goes to both the state and federal government. With the tax revenue, both the state and federal government will develop a budget plan.
The state covers police, educations, building and roads. The Federal government covers the many of the same things but on a larger scale. They oversee the military as well.
That is why it is important that everyone pays their taxes. Cheating on this civic duty will only be detrimental to both your nation and community. If everyone cheated on their taxes then there would be no new buildings, roads would be poor and our education system would be below par.
At some point in your life you will more than likely run into a large amount of cash and have the choice of not claiming it on your taxes. A lot of times, the IRS is backed up and will not notice this but eventually tax evasion will catch up with you. Depending on the circumstance, the IRS can penalize you up to five percent of your unpaid taxes plus what you owe. You can also have your assets seized.
In the end, taxes are in place so your nation and community can grow. As a citizen, it is your duty to care about both. If everyone made their fair contribution, then we would continue to have a great national budget.
