Walleye: School of Fish Competition

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty launched the Walleye School of Fish project on May 9, 2008. During his annual outing at the state fishing opener, the governor unveiled his own 4-foot wooden walleye decorated with a map of Minnesota and fishing lures, representing the more than 10,000 lakes in the state and the 2.3 million individuals who fish on those lakes each year.

Governor Pawlenty’s autographed fish will be displayed in the Walleye School of Fish Exhibit at CivicFest along with walleyes created by young Minnesota artists who chose their own uniquely Minnesota themes. The walleyes creatively celebrate iconic artistic, recreational, and cultural aspects of Minnesota life and history.
