To our Attendees, please remember to check your e-mail as we will be sending you important updates about your shift schedule and Orientation and other event information within the next 2 weeks. We do have a few spots still available on the Volunteer Team – especially for folks who are available on Friday Aug 29, Sat Aug 30, Sun Aug 31 and Mon Sept 1 for the afternoon and evening shifts. So for those of you who plan to spend the long weekend close to home, consider spending part of your vacation with us! To join the CivicFest Volunteer Team you must be 18 or older, love history and be available to volunteer for at least three 4 ½ hour shifts from August 28th through September 4th 2008. Join the CivicFest Docents Team As one of the premier events hosted by MSP 2008, CivicFest is a nonpartisan celebration of Minnesota and American History, Democracy and the U.S. Presidency. Many of the 30 plus exhibits have been featured attractions at the Smithsonian Institution, the Lincoln Museum and Library and other renowned institutions, but never before have they been brought together under one roof. CivicFest is a remarkable exhibition that will transform the Minneapolis Convention Center into a uniquely entertaining and enlightening celebration of American history and civic engagement. (read more about CivicFest and the exhibits) To complement these exceptional attractions we are looking for a special team of dedicated people to act as exhibit guides, assistant curators and docents. CivicFest is the perfect outlet for enthusiastic history buffs (both American and Minnesotan) as well as anyone else who would enjoy sharing their civic pride and local knowledge in a participatory and interactive way. You do not need extensive proficiency or a degree to participate at CivicFest – what’s most important is that you have an avid interest in things historical and that you’ll feel comfortable sharing that passion with visitors of all ages. If you have better-than-average knowledge (and a contagious enthusiasm) about any of the following please consider becoming an Exhibit Guide/ Assistant Curator for exhibits showcasing:
With an anticipated audience of over 150,000 over the 8 days, these special docents will help us provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all our guests. Space is limited. We need about 350 docents for this project. To join the team you must be 18 or older (or volunteering with an adult) and available for at least three 4 ½ hour shifts from August 28 to September 4, 2008.
